Website Design Choices
The layout of the website is dark and not brightly colored because William Blake was a person who was mysterious and dark. Blake was known for encounters with the dead and many people believed his style to be Gothic, this is why the layout has a simple style with dull and non vibrant colors. In Blake's writing there is a theme of repression, and repression is to show painful or repressing thoughts, so the darker colors where to show the "repressed" mind of William Blake. The color white was used to the the dominate theme of innocence and purity, showed through the child. The color blue was used to represent experience and freedom from conscious, based on Blake's poems.
The artwork chosen was original works of art from William Blake himself. The artwork was used to show the themes William Blake used in his poems. The first two paintings were used to show William Blake's major theme of religion, and the last two paintings were used to show the theme of innocence and show the importance of children to William Blake. The songs chosen were original poems by William Blake, and they were turned into songs by individuals. The songs where chosen because they were composed in a way that William Blake would approve of. The first two songs were solemn and calm much like Blake's poems, and the final song was more cheery. The final song was not completely amusing, but it had a slight happiness for the theme of innocence. Overall the decisions made were based on the personality of William Blake and the content of his poems.
